La Red Health Center expands in Milford

U.S. Sen. Tom Carper and local officials helped La Red Health Center celebrate National Health Center week and also announced La Red Health Center’s expansion into the Milford Wellness Village at the former Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital.

Nationwide Healthcare Services purchased the facility and plans to create the Milford Wellness Village. Almost half the space is already committed. A skilled nursing facility will occupy space on the first and second floors of the former hospital. La Red Health Center’s Milford Family Practice will move into the former cancer center. A childcare center will move into one of the campus buildings, and the former hospital fitness center will be expanded into an outpatient rehab gym. The openings of the businesses will take place on different dates throughout the fall. 

Partnering with Nationwide Health Care Services to relocate the Milford Family Practice site to the Wellness Village will allow La Red to increase patient access to high-quality, cost-effective healthcare by adding Oral Health Services and expanding Pediatric/Adolescent, Adult & Senior, Women’s Health, and Behavioral Health Care Services in northern Sussex County.

Sen. Tom Carper welcomes Sen. Dave Wilson to the podium. Carper said, “Last year 28 million Americans visited federally-qualified community health centers.” Wilson stated he was born in Milford Memorial Hospital and said, ”This will be a great asset to Milford and its surrounding communities.”
Rep. Bryan Shupe, who was born in Milford Memorial Hospital, credited the partnership of Bayhealth, La Red and Nationwide Heath Care Services for helping the community.
Brian Olson, CEO of La Red Health Center, said that Nationwide “knows what our needs are, what our mission is, and understands the populations in our counties.”
Rabbi Meir Gelley, president of Nationwide Health Care Services, said, “We knew creating the Wellness Village was a perfect opportunity for Nationwide and the Milford community.”
