Regal Heights thanks Volunteers for Enriching their Residents’ Lives

Regal Heights Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, a proud member of Nationwide Healthcare Services, gave a big thank-you to the many volunteers who enrich the lives of their residents at its annual Volunteer Appreciation Brunch on April 14th.

At the Brunch, approximately 50 volunteers were treated to a delicious meal and given a small gift. The volunteers also received a Certificate of Appreciation, acknowledging their work with the residents.

“Volunteers enable facilities like Regal Heights to greatly expand the types of activities available to our residents,” said Nico Zaballero, A.D.C, and Activity Director for Regal Heights.

“Whether it’s running a bingo night or providing religious services, the dedicated volunteers at Regal Heights bring joy to the lives of our residents,” Zaballero said. “We’re proud to be able to honor them every year for all the work that they do.”

Many of the volunteers are faith-based groups, including those from nearby St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Hockessin, DE, as well as from the Voice of Truth Seventh-Day Adventist Church, located in Bear, DE.

In addition, some volunteer school groups assist with Bingo Night and visit with residents whose families are far away.

Volunteers also bring their pets in to see the residents and run a beading club.

“The volunteers are people from our community that are actively involved with us,” said BJ DiDonato, Director of Community Relations for Regal Heights. “They’re very giving of their time. They contribute in so many ways – anywhere from reading a book to our residents to playing games with them.”

The largest volunteer event held each year is with Delmarva Power. Employees of the utility company provide each resident of Regal Heights and its sister facility, Regency Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Wilmington, with a Christmas present.

DiDonato praised the work of their Volunteer Coordinator, Veronica Dennison, for coordinating this and many other programs at both facilities.

“We couldn’t do our work here at Regal Heights, or at any of the other Nationwide facilities, without the support of a talented and dedicated group of professionals,” she said. “They build a strong foundation for all of the activities that enrich our residents’ lives and deepen our programming.”
